Sopoćani Monastery

Über die Unterkunft

Sopoćani is the endowment of King Uroš I from the mid-13th century, set near the source of the Raška river not far from Novi Pazar. Its Dormition of the Virgin fresco is considered one of the finest works of medieval European painting, close to classical models in its monumentality and light. The monastery has been UNESCO-listed since 1979.
