Vlasina Lake: a highland jewel of southern Serbia
Published: 10/06/2026
Vlasina Lake is the largest reservoir in Serbia, set on a plateau at around 1200 metres in the southeast. Surrounded by hills, clean air and silence, it is one of the best-preserved natural areas in the country.
Its special feature is floating peat islands that drift across the surface with the wind. The area is protected for its outstanding qualities and rich wildlife. The lake is ideal for walking, cycling and fishing.
Accommodation includes hotels, apartments and cottages with lake views. Vlasina is about four hours from Belgrade via Leskovac and Surdulica — perfect for a cool summer escape.
