Palić: a lake and nature park near Subotica — a guide

Palić is a lake and settlement in northern Vojvodina, just a few kilometres from Subotica. It is known for its distinctive early-20th-century Art Nouveau architecture, a landscaped park and a calm, flatland setting.

What to see and do

Palić's symbols are its Art Nouveau buildings — the Water Tower, the Grand Terrace and the Women's Beach — around a landscaped lakeside park. There is also a zoo, a promenade and cycling paths. Together with Subotica (one of Serbia's finest Art Nouveau towns), Palić is a great base for a cultural, relaxing weekend. In summer it is also known for its film festival.

When to go

Spring to autumn for walks, the park and events; summer is liveliest. The closeness of Subotica makes it pleasant all year.

Getting there

From Belgrade about 190 km by motorway to Subotica, around 2 hours. There are rail and bus links to Subotica, then local transport to Palić.
