Silver Lake, known as the "Serbian sea", is one of Serbia''s favourite summer destinations. Set near Veliko Gradište on the Danube, this 14-kilometre lake is lined with sandy beaches, promenades and a rich tourist offer.
Its main draw is clean, shallow beaches ideal for families. The season runs from June to early September, when the water warms to a pleasant 25 degrees. Along the shore you''ll find showers, sun loungers and water-sports rentals.
Active guests can enjoy boating, jet-ski, diving and fishing — the lake is famous for pike, carp and catfish. Accommodation ranges from waterfront apartments and villas to camps and hotels; book early for July and August.
Nearby, the medieval Golubac Fortress and Đerdap National Park — home to the deepest river gorge in Europe — are well worth a visit. Silver Lake is about 90 minutes from Belgrade.
