Studenica Monastery
About
Studenica is the most important endowment of Stefan Nemanja, founded in 1190 and on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1986. The Church of the Virgin is built of white marble, and its frescoes from 1209 rank among the peaks of Byzantine painting. The complex also holds the King's Church with its Nativity of the Virgin fresco, lodgings and a bell tower. Studenica lies in the valley of the Studenica river, some 39 km from Kraljevo.
