Monasteries of Serbia — eight centuries in stone and fresco

Serbian medieval monasteries rank among Europe's most valuable cultural monuments. Studenica is UNESCO-protected, Sopoćani and Mileševa hold frescoes of world significance, while Manasija and Ravanica are both fortresses and sanctuaries. Most sit in beautiful landscapes, so a visit combines easily with a holiday in nature.

Where to go — routes by region

The Valley of Kings along the Ibar gathers Studenica, Žiča and Maglič. The Raška region leads to Sopoćani and Đurđevi Stupovi, and the south to Mileševa with the White Angel. Šumadija holds Manasija, Ravanica and Ljubostinja, while Fruška Gora has sixteen monasteries within a short distance.

Accommodation near the monasteries

Ethno homesteads, cottages and apartments exist near almost every monastery. Browse the offer, save favourites and contact the host directly — with no guest commission.
