Čačak: the Ovčar-Kablar gorge and the "Serbian Mount Athos" — a guide

Čačak is a city in western Serbia, on the West Morava, known for its closeness to the Ovčar-Kablar gorge — one of the most beautiful in Serbia, called the "Serbian Mount Athos" for its many monasteries.

What to see

The main attraction is the Ovčar-Kablar gorge with the meanders of the West Morava between the Ovčar and Kablar mountains, home to as many as ten monasteries. There are also Ovčar Spa, viewpoints and hiking trails. In Čačak itself are the town square, the Town Museum and the church.

When to go

Spring to autumn is loveliest, for the gorge, monasteries and hiking; autumn brings colours.

Getting there

From Belgrade about 140 km by motorway, around 2 hours; frequent bus links.
