Kraljevo: a city at the heart of Serbian history
Published: 10/06/2026
Kraljevo is a city in central Serbia, at the confluence of the Ibar and West Morava rivers, in a region exceptionally rich in medieval heritage. Surrounded by monasteries, spas and mountains, it is a great base for exploring the heart of Serbian history.
Near the city stands Žiča Monastery, the coronation church of Serbian kings, while the UNESCO-protected Studenica Monastery lies in a canyon nearby — one of the most important monuments of Serbian culture. The Ibar valley, known as the "valley of lilacs", leads towards medieval fortresses and Mount Kopaonik.
Accommodation includes hotels and apartments. Kraljevo is about two hours from Belgrade via the motorway and Čačak.
