Zrenjanin: a Banat city of bridges and plains — a guide

Zrenjanin is the largest city of central Banat, on the Begej river, in the Vojvodina plain. It is known for its tidy centre with Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings, its bridges and a calm, flatland spirit.

What to see

In the centre are the City Hall, Liberty Square, the cathedral and a pedestrian zone with 18th- and 19th-century buildings. The city is also known for its bridges over the Begej. Nearby is the Carska Bara special nature reserve — a rich wetland bird habitat, ideal for nature watching and boating.

When to go

Spring to autumn is loveliest, for the centre, the Begej and Carska Bara; summer is liveliest.

Getting there

From Belgrade about 75 km, around 1–1.5 hours; frequent bus links.
