Winter holidays in Serbia: which ski resort to choose

Winter holidays in Serbia are no longer a compromise. Resorts have invested seriously in lifts and snowmaking, while prices remain far below the Alps.
Kopaonik — the biggest
With over **55 km of groomed runs**, modern lifts and reliable snow from December to April, Kopaonik is unrivalled. Runs for all levels, ski schools, night skiing and the liveliest après-ski. The national park is beautiful in summer too.
**Downside:** crowds over holidays and the highest accommodation prices in the country.
**Suits:** experienced skiers and groups who want life after the slopes.
Stara Planina — the wild beauty
The resort at Babin Zub has modern lifts and slopes that are often empty compared to Kopaonik. The nature is rugged and beautiful.
**Downside:** distance and less to do off the slopes.
**Suits:** those escaping crowds.
Zlatibor — skiing plus everything else
Tornik has decent runs, but Zlatibor's real strength is that you do not have to ski: the Gold Gondola, restaurants, wellness, walks. Perfect for mixed groups.
**Suits:** families and groups with different interests.
Divčibare — for beginners and children
Gentle slopes, short distances and an hour and a half from Belgrade. The ideal place for a child's first time on skis.
**Suits:** beginners, families with small children, day trips.
Zlatar — the quiet alternative
A smaller resort, calm surroundings and very affordable accommodation.
Practical tips
- **Book early.** For New Year and winter school breaks, the best places go three months ahead.
- **Buy ski passes online** where possible.
- **Rent equipment** on site; buying pays off only from about ten days of skiing a year.
- **Check vouchers** — many mountain properties accept them.
- If you do not ski, a **return lift ticket** is the cheapest way to see the summit.
